Registered
with Weatherbys General Stud Book, BHD, BSJA and Graded SHB 9GB) Stallion
(2001/2 Champion Thoroughbred).
Kings Composer is a charismatic competition stallion; short coupled, deep bodied and combines Presence, Power and Quality into his progeny from all types of mares. By Sousa, sire of International and Advance Eventers, National Hunt/Point to Point winners, Show Jumpers and Wembley Show Horses. In 2001 Kings Composer crowned his career at the Sports Horse Breeding of Great Britain stallion grading, capturing the prestigious Macdonald Buchanan Trophy awarded to the champion thoroughbred. Prior to the grading King had to undergo a full 5 stage vetting - which had to be carried out by a vet on the SHB veterinary panel. Without a clean veterinary certificate King would not have been able to go forward to the grading. Flat Work Under Saddle He had to be ridden in an outdoor school and was assessed at walk, trot and canter and marked for his attension to riders aids and submission; balance and impulsion; rhythm and movement and overall rideability. The judges overall remark was "nicely balanced with good rhythm especially in trot and showed a genuine attitude to his work". Assessment In Hand He obtained exceptionally good marks for his conformation, being noted for his lovely head, very good depth and width of his rib cage and chest as well as having very good bone, limb alignment, neck and quarters. They remarked upon his strong and compact back as well as his strong hocks. He was then assessed for his correctness of movement in front and behind on a hard surface and again he scored well. King recieved an excellent overall pass mark for the whole section. Loose Movement/Jumping Appraisal He showed good power and flexion of the hocks throughout with good trot and canter work. He was only marked with average style over a fence, but had good marks for balance and technique. Despite being rushed by his three over anxious handlers the judges also marked him as having "a very good attitude to his jumping" - however the handlers got very poor marks from all the judges for this part of the proceedings. Performance/Progeny Performance The general rule for acceptance onto the register is that King should have reached Grade B status with the BSJA but to date he is still a little short of winnings - however, he now has progeny competing BSJA and BHTA as well as be a prolific sire of show horses. At the National Hunter show this year he sired the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed competition horse yearlings as well as the overall in hand hunter filly champion. Overall General Impression Judged to have plenty of substance, lots of presence coupled with more than sufficient quality and scope. All the above made him the 2001 champion thorough bred and the winner of the Macdonald Buchanon Trophy During 1999 and 2000, King competed at BSJA events, jumping mainly in Grade C and Open competitions. He was 2nd in the Baileys Grade C championship Royal Cornwall Show in 1999 and was again well placed in 2000. King continues to sire winning in hand show horses and has now sired a winning Hunter Foal at Royal Cornwall for six consecutive years. 2001 saw Kings Composer's progeny excel in the show ring, siring the winning 1st, 2nd and 3rd Sports Horse Yearlings and the overall Hunter Filly Champion at the National Hunter Show. Wins were also plentiful at County Shows and he also had two winning youngsters in the Sports Horse Section at the National Irish Draught Show. In 1999 and 2000 he sired the winning foal from the Light and Heavyweight Broodmare classes, and in 2000 he was also the sire of the 2nd small hunter foal. He was also represented at the show by three other in hand youngsters, which were all placed with one of them taking the reserve Cornish Bred for the second year running. He has now sired a winning foal at Royal Cornwall for the last six years. King now has a few progeny under saddle - competing BSJA, BHTA and BYEH qualifiers. The five year old at the BYE qualifier received the highest marks in his section for jumping technique. Kings Composer is still a young stallion and has a great future ahead of him as a sire of competition horses. Judges like his progeny; they inherit his presence, conformation and from early reports, his powerful jumping ability. King is excellent with young/maiden mares and has exceptionally high fertility with mares on their 'foaling heats'. We are lucky to have a very good veterinary practice virtually on the doorstep for any mares, which prove difficult to get in foal. |
